The new Montreal Transportation Commission (MTC) decided to convert all streetcar lines to buses within 10 years and acquired 1,300 buses, including a thousand of the Canadian Car-Brill model. In 2012, the STM announced a plan to convert its entire fleet of buses over to all-electric by 2025. Montreal was served solely by buses until the Metro opened in 1966. The MR-63 cars carried millions of people until it was permanently retired from service in 2018. In 1976, 423 MR-73 métro cars were put into service and there are now an additional 639 AZUR train cars in the STM’s rolling stock.
